We are thinking about a 5-day cruise, plus staying for a couple of nights in Puerto Ayora. Would it also make any sense to spend maybe two nights in Puerto Villamil on Isabela, and go to the unguided sites there (tortoise breeding, Las Tintoreras) and relax? How easy/costly is transportation between Villamil and Ayora? Thanks for any advice,Toby
This is an excellent option that few people take advantage of. Isabella is one of the most beautiful Islands to visit, and Puerto Villamil is a community with a strong sense of conservation. Visitor sites nearby are wonderfull and amongst the best in the Galapagos Islands. You have so many activities. 2 days may even be short, but they are enough. Transportation from Santa Cruz (Puerto Ayora) to Puerto Villamil is not expensive and you can go by public speed boat, this can be hired right by the docks at Puerto Ayora. The cost is around $30 per person each way. Just make sure to check the schedules for your return trip from Isabella. There are some really nice guest houses on Isabella. You can check our hotel section on this same website to contact them. I personally like la Casa de Marita. Enjoy your trip.
